Debussy’s poem and Beethoven’s violin concerto 

The orchestra in Beethoven was strong and powerful – the sound of the violin solo was like a little bird skipping in the wood – those notes were not just a little bit high 

Debussy’s poem sounded like an aria on the flute – the notes were simple – but it was the quality of sound on the flute that was attractive to me 

It was a night last Friday that the Royal philharmonic playing in a chamber music spirit
